• After its successful premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, geeksploitation film Zero Charisma will be shown at the opening night of New York’s Comic-Con . The screening will be by invitation only – although there is a competition to win tickets , and it will also be released on multiple digital platforms including Google Play on 8 October. The film examines the life of Scott, a committed gamesmaster and roleplayer, and the effect on his D&D group when a hip newcomer joins. Trailer:

• As the universe continues to get excited about Doctor Who ‘s anniversary in November, Special Events Group are gearing up for the 50th celebrations with a mass themed wedding. The unofficial event will boast a themed cake, commemorative rings, compo for “best dressed” and other activities. Taking place on 24 November, Who -themed limos will whisk 50 lucky couples to the ceremony at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, London. The celebrations will be broadcast on local TV and members of the public will be able to join the fun at £10 a head. More at www.whovianwedding.com .

• MARVEL’s talking about another TV spin-off from its superhero universe , thanks to Captain America ‘s Agent Carter.

Wizards Vs Aliens will soon return for its second series and Russell The T declares it to be “wilder, bolder, deeper and funnier than ever, taking us from suburbia to the wilds of Tibet, encountering spaceships, magical worlds, haunted castles and galactic wars along the way.”

• Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and the rest of the Toy Story cast are returning this October for Halloween-themed Toy Story Of Terror . The half-hour special is set to air in the UK on Sky Movies in late October. This comes at a good time, as Pixar announce their plans to push back the release dates to both The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory . Trailer:

• BristolCon Fringe readings in the pub continue into their second month with Tim Maughan and Piotr Świetlik taking to the floor next Monday, 23 September, in the Shakespeare, Prince Street. The readings, which are organised by the BristolCon crew , start at 7.30 pm.

• Been following the online comic version of The Blade Itself , adapted from the work of top fantasy author Joe Abercrombie? If your Luddite-like answer is “no” then it’s your lucky day: the first four issues of the series are coming to paperback at $14.99, with a foreword from Peter V Brett, so get your pre-order in from Monday 23 September.

• The makers of The Last Days On Mars have released its first UK trailer, with a grim look at the perils facing the crew of the Tantalus Base. It stars Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai and Olivia Williams. Trailer:

Sequart has announced Warren Ellis: The Captured Ghost Interviews , by Patrick Meaney and Kevin Thurman. In 2010 and 2011 the top comics writer sat down and recorded over nine hours of footage, about his work and inspirations, which was later adapted into a documentary feature film. Meaney and Thurman’s new book, for $12.99 in print and $6.99 on Kindle, is a record of those interviews and the parts that never made it to the screen.

Comic Book Movie has leapt on a Tweet from Dwayne Johnson (née The Rock) which suggests he may have been cast in a DC superhero movie. Reply to a Tweet saying, “I could see Rock playing in DC movies,” Johnson cryptically wrote, “Funny U say that…”

• The CW president Mark Pedowitz has told reporters that the network is not looking at season eight of Supernatural “as the final year in any way, shape or form”. [via TVLine ]

• Director Alex Proyas ( Dark City , I Robot ) is developing a movie called Gods Of Egypt for Summit Entertainment (which produced his previous movie Knowing ). The film is “the story of a common thief and a god on a magical quest set amongst the pyramids and sphinxes.” However, Proyas will first make The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag (based on a Robert Heinlein short story) for Phoenix Pictures, which is currently in the casting stage. • Juno Temple ( The Three Musketeers , The Other Boleyn Girl ) has been cast as a pixie in Maleficent , Disney’s re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty from the evil witch’s point of view. Thistlewit is one of three pixies (the other two being played by Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville) who are in charge of caring for Sleeping Beauty, aka Aurora (played by Elle Fanning), but who prove to be “neglectful and superficial”. Angelina Jolie is playing Maleficent the witch. [via The Hollywood Reporter ]

• Dimension Films announced today that Frank Miller’s Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill For , will be released on 4 October 2013. [via Coming Soon ]
