The Flash movie and TV universes WILL be separated

If you’re not currently watching The Flash TV show, then you’re missing out on weekly doses of excellent superhero escapism. The show has deservedly garnered acclaim from critics and fans alike ever since its debut last year, which is why there’s been plenty of speculation as to whether it will co-exist with the new movie reboot or not.

According to movie producer Charles Roven, that won’t be the case. Speaking with Collider (opens in new tab), he had this to say when quizzed on the matter: “[Grant Gustin is] terrific in doing [what he’s doing]. I think that whether it’s The Flash or Arrow, they’re doing a great job with the TV shows they’re doing.”

“It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens when we have a different Flash in a different universe”, Roven continued. “We’re gonna try to stay in our universe and they’re gonna be staying, I think, in their universe, and hopefully the audiences will embrace both.”

While there is precedent for multiple speedsters in the comics – and while it would be great to see Gustin and Miller on screen together – Roven’s comments make sense. Building one inter-connected universe is complicated enough without merging it with everything that’s currently taking place on our small screens. Thankfully, we still get the best of both worlds no matter what. Directed by Seth Grahame-Smith and starring Ezra Miller, The Flash is slated for release on March 23 2018.
