Doctor Who Day Of The Moon Ratings

Just over a million fewer viewers than last week on overnights

Doctor Who “Day Of The Moon” pulled in 5.4 million viewers, down 1.1 million from last weekend’s series premiere.

The episode was the second most watched TV show of the day, after Britain’s Got Talent (9.5 million) and was 700,000 viewers ahead of the third placed BBC News at 10.15pm.

The audience share was also down to 30.5%, which was again the second highest of the day after Britain’s Got Talent .

It’s a real shame to see the show lose so many viewers week-on-week, but to put things in perspective, that’s still a great figure for a British drama these days, and astonishing in its timeslot. But the timeslot is clearly having an effect, and convincing people that watching on catch-up is less of a hassle (it’s number one on iPlayer yet again). It’s also notable that yet again, the audience leapt up from 1.4 million for the preceding show ( Don’t Watch The Hare ) and fell to 3.2 million for the following show ( So You Think You Can Dance ), while the show on ITV at the same time ( People Do The Funniest Things ) has just 1.9 million. So significant numbers of people are making the effort – it’s simply that Saturday night TV in general is so poor there’s no reason to rush back home early these days.
