Betrayer first new project from F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever devs

Six key developers behind No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R., and Shogo went independent to keep working on imaginative first-person games. Blackpowder Games’ first project after splitting off from Monolith is Betrayer, a near-monochromatic mystery exploration game.

Betrayer is set in 1604, on the coast of what would soon become Virginia. The player character is dispatched to a small colony but, in a Roanoke-ian twist, all of its inhabitants are gone. The lone explorer must piece together what happened to the settlement while fending off cursed conquistadors and other ghosts, with only a map of the region and a strange archer in red to help him.

Blackpowder Games’ debut project will hit Steam Early Access on Aug. 14 for $15. Our friends at PC Gamer got a hands-on look at Betrayer in action if you want to learn more.
