Competing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Call of Duties and Battlefields of the world, many shooters from smaller studios have had a harder time getting noticed. But that’s not quite the case with Czech developer Bohemia Interactive’s ArmA: Armed Assault, a series that has carved out an extremely loyal fan base. The third game in the series, ArmA 3, is about to fire up its marketing machine as the game marches towards a 2012 release with an official website scheduled to open its doors this Friday, September 9, at 0900 CET (12:00 a.m. Pacific Time).
The site will have new videos, screens, and background information. There will be descriptions of weaponry, factions, and vehicles — including the new underwater vehicles. From what we’ve seen in our most recent preview, ArmA 3 seems promising, but we’re eager to see how the game has progressed over the last few months.

If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it’s the spiritual successor to Operation Flashpoint that debuted in 2006. Like its predecessors, ArmA 3 abandons the usual unseen hand that carefully nudges players in the right direction, and replaces it with a full-scale island sandbox, challenging players to think rather than charge ahead shooting. Instead of focusing on bigger explosions and extraordinary drama, ArmA has been steadily honing itself into a highly realistic military sim. Unfortunately, you won’t find much more than a logo and a clock counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds until the full site goes live.
