Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 on Vita features tap screen to attack mode. Whaaa?

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is one of the most exciting prospects on PS Vita. But why sideline its already ultra-accessible control system by giving it a needless touch screen mode? According to Game Star (after translation), the game will feature a ‘tap to attack’ mode. Super Street Fighter IV 3DS features touch screen attack shortcuts on the touchscreen which massively unbalance the online game, but on Vita? Utter madness!

For starters, Street Fighter on 3DS has TWO screens, meaning the actual fight is never obscured by your thumbs. On Vita, you’ll be touching the same screen you’re trying to watch. Of course, any fighting aficionado will tell you that you should only look at your opponent while you play, but that’s not going to help newcomers, who will be left looking at more ‘thumb’ than ‘fun’.

The other thing of course, is that there’s another, even simpler system included in the game which is used for attacking to devastatingly simple effect. The buttons.

Still, touch attacking is only going to be an optional feature, so it’s not all that bad. We imagine it’ll be used as a shortcut system for special moves down the left and right-hand extremities of that lovely wide screen. And ensure that online Quick Matches are a festival of spam.

Sigh…
