Shenmue 3 overtakes Bloodstained as most-funded video game on Kickstarter

Poor Bloodstained (opens in new tab). The crowdfunded spiritual successor to Castlevania held the title of most-funded video game project on Kickstarter for barely more than a month before Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue 3 claimed the title for itself. With less than a day left in its campaign, Shenmue 3 surpassed Bloodstained’s impressive $5,545,991 record; as of this writing, it’s hovering (opens in new tab) around $5.6 million funded, with 12 hours left before the campaign closes.

Originally revealed during the Sony press conference (opens in new tab), the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter was another in a long list of E3 2015 surprises (opens in new tab) that also included a resurrected The Last Guardian, a Final Fantasy 7 remake and more. There are reasons why people love Shenmue (opens in new tab), and today they’ve put their money where their fandom is.
