If you’re running a densely-packed gaming database like Hardcore Gaming 101 and putting together your first hard-copy, made-of-paper book for the public, you’ll probably want to start with something small: “Metro City Limits: More Final Fight Clones Than You Require,” or “Remember Irem?” or some such. Or, hell, you could just start out with a guide to most every old-school graphic adventure ever made, presumably launching Hardcore Reading About Gaming 101 in the process.
Kurt Kalata’s Guide to Classic Graphic Adventures bills itself as a bible for anyone who likes LucasArts and Sierra games – but the actual Bible would probably take up less backpack space. Better to keep the mammoth compendium to test the load-bearing capabilities of your shelf or coffee-table: offering player reviews and tips paired with developer interviews, the book starts out with heavy-hitters Sierra/Lucas before venturing into lesser-known gems like Kyrandia and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

The book’s available from CreateSpace now, and will be showing up on Amazon “within a week or so.” Use the coupon DN84NDUU when ordering from the latter to get free shipping within the US.
