Minecraft XBLA owners with SDTV offered refund

When Minecraft launched on Xbox Live Arcade earlier this month, there was a brief-yet-audible cry that was let out by some fans. Apparently, a certain sub-section of them were only really interested in playing the game cooperatively. And an even smaller sub-section only wanted to play cooperatively on their SDTV.

It was those users who were furious at Microsoft for not informing them of the need for an HDTV before their purchase. As it turns out, Microsoft agrees (opens in new tab). They should have informed customers. As such, they are offering purchasers a full refund through Xbox Live customer service.

“We updated our pre-sale notification to inform customers that an HD screen is required for the split-screen multiplayer feature on Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition,” said Microsoft in a statement. “If a player does not have an HD screen and purchased this game prior to the notification update, they are eligible for a full refund through customer support.”

Even if you don’t have an HDTV and can’t access split-screen, we’d still encourage you to take the game for a spin. Even after playing a considerable amount of the PC version, we still really enjoyed (opens in new tab) the Xbox 360 version.
