Jim Carrey confirmed for Kick-Ass 2

Kick-Ass 2 will definitely have more rubber-faced goonery than the first instalment, as Jim Carrey has officially been confirmed as Colonel Stars in the forthcoming sequel.

Director Jeff Wadlow had hinted at the star’s involvement earlier in the week, and now Deadline is reporting that the deal is a lock, with Carrey set to appear as the leader of the poor man’s Justice League, Justice Forever.

Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar hasn’t wasted any time in commenting on Carrey’s appointment, and it’s fair to say that the writer is somewhat chuffed that Wadlow has successfully bagged his man.

“Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back,” said Millar, “and we’ve been itching to talk about this ever since because the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy.”

“We didn’t quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel,” he continued, “but the entire team loves him to bits and I’ve been a fan since I first saw him.”

Millar went on to drop a few more details as to what we can expect from the film, and revealed that there’s another key piece of villain casting still to be announced.

“The movie runs from Hit-Girl #1 to Kick-Ass 2 #7 ,” he said, “and fans of the comic will know that the part of Uncle Ralphie is still to be announced. He’s the big bad from the Hit-Girl series and you, my friends, are in for a treat.”

Kick-Ass 2 opens in the UK on 19 July 2013
