So BioShock is definitely, err, infinite, even without Ken Levine. We knew that 2K had held onto the series after the effective closure of Levine’s Irrational Games but Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has cemented the fact that the show will go on.
As reported by Gamespot (opens in new tab), Zelnick, speaking at the MKM Partners Investor Day Conference in New York, said “The franchise is in the hands of 2K. They’ll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in.”
Sounds like we might just be getting announcements about a lighthouse and a man in 2016 then. The last we heard was that 2K Marin was in charge of the series but the studio has apparently undergone major staff changes since its release of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (opens in new tab). It’s been very quiet but perhaps its busying away on a sequel.
Zelnick also teased news of Levine’s latest project. The ex-BioShock lead now heads up a much smaller studio for Take Two and its mysterious sci-fi game has Zenick very excited. “I’m not going to steal Ken’s thunder, but we’re thrilled to be in business with Ken,” he said. “What I can say is you would expect that Ken would work on something highly creative and innovative. I think that would be a reasonable expectation for whatever he does next.”
