The Walking Dead director reveals Carol was nearly killed off instead of T-Dog

The Walking Dead fans are currently waiting with bated breath for the start of the second part of season 6, but in the meantime SFX magazine has weaselled out some juicy info about a previous season and the death of a fan favourite.

Talking to executive producer/director/zombie make-up effects artist, Greg Nicotero, SFX discovered that everyone’s favourite survivor, Carol, was originally set to die in season 3, in the episode which sees T-Dog meet his demise.

“Not a lot of people know that when we were shooting season three, in the episode where T-Dog died, there was a moment where Carol was going to die in lieu of T-Dog’s character.” He said. “At that point there was some concern in the writers’ room that they didn’t know where to take her character. So the fact that [showrunner] Scott Gimple and the writers have been able to craft this amazing journey for her just goes to show that there is a tremendous amount of story to tell for a lot of these characters.”

In case you forgot, T-Dog got bit by a Walker while securing a fence and then courageously sacrificed himself so that Carol could escape. We wonder how would seasons 4 to 6 would have turned out if their roles had been reversed?

The second part of The Walking Dead season 6 starts on AMC on February 14, 2016 in the US, with it hitting the UK the day after on FOX.
