Tim Burtons new movie looks like Harry Potter meets X-Men and yes, thats a Slenderman

The book of Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs has always just looked like it needs to be a Tim Burton film with it’s gothic photography and scrawling text. It’s no surprise then to see that the Alice In Wonderland director has chosen to add it to his collection of (mostly PG-13) darkness.

Young Jake finds himself in a house full of children who are gifted with a variety of special powers and are kept under the watchful eye of a certain Miss Peregrine (who thankfully isn’t played by Helena Bonham Carter for once). I love Carter but switching out for Eva Green, looking wonderfully Penny Dreadful here, is a great choice. The children have a variety of interesting ‘gifts’ too with super strength, flight without lead shoes, invisibility and some uniquely positioned teeth that would give your orthodontist a heart attack.

That betentacled creature in the closing seconds of the trailer might just look like a hideous demon but it’s wearing a suit, has no face other than that mouth and all manner of tentacles and teeth. Slenderman anyone? Plus, before you dismiss this as being part of Burton’s now traditionally cookie cutter horror, there’s no Elfman score and the screenplay comes from Stardust and X-Men: First Class’ Jane Goldman. I have high hopes. Check out the trailer above.

Directed by Tim Burton and starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O’Dowd, Judi Dench, and Samuel L. Jackson, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is out in cinemas in Autumn 2016.
