Skylanders SuperChargers brings vehicular mayhem on September 20

Even video game characters are fans of Mad Max (opens in new tab). At least, that’s what I’m gathering from the announcement of Skylanders SuperChargers, the next game in Activision’s wildly popular Skylanders series.

Featuring vehicles designed for land, air and water, Skylanders SuperChargers will give kids a total of 40 new toys to play with, and parents will get a new set of headaches as they hunt for that one, rare figure that no store seems to have in stock. Vehicles will be customizable in-game, while some figures will have moving parts so that they can be played with out-of-game as well.

A short trailer was released to accompany the announcement, though you’ll have to skip through most of it before you’ll see any gameplay:

Twenty new characters and twenty vehicles will be made available, and all previous Skylanders characters will be compatible with the new rides. Skylanders SuperChargers is set to burn rubber (er … plastic?) on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U and iPad on September 20, with a Starter Pack costing $74.99. Unique versions of the game are also slated to arrive on Wii and 3DS on the same date.
