Moon Man review

Adapted from Tomi Ungerer’s 1966 children’s picture book, Moon Man is an unusually slow, gentle animation that will bore Despicable Me -loving kids, but soothe the soul of arthouse adults.

Ripped tonally and visually from the pages of its source material by first-time director Stephen Schesch, it tells the tale of – you guessed it – a magical man on the moon (Katharina Thalbach).

Bored, he rides to Earth on a comet, only to be seen as an aggressor by the egomaniacal ‘world president’ (Michel Dodane).

Light and subtly satirical, it’s a refreshing reminder that sometimes less can be more.
