Crytek revealed Ryse, a first-person sword fighting game of bloody Roman battles, at E3 2011. Since then, we haven’t heard a peep besides “it’s on track” about the sword swinging, shield bashing, dude stabbing game which looked to court core gamers with their sworn nemesis: Kinect controls.
According to sources who spoke with The Verge, that’s because Crytek and Microsoft are reworking Ryse into a “mega launch title” for the Xbox One (opens in new tab) and its rumored new-and-improved Kinect. Original Kinect games that relied on similar motions for different purposes–like, say, stabbing a guy versus throwing your sword at him–were notoriously unwieldy, so perhaps we’ll have better luck in the next generation.
The Verge reports a new Forza game will debut at launch. Forza Horizon released in October, an open-world spinoff which was largely the work of Playground Games. Series veteran Turn 10 Studios has not launched its own game since Forza Motorsport 4 in 2011, so its schedule looks good for a presumed launch window of late 2013 to early 2014.
We may just get our first look at both these titles at Microsoft’s rumored May reveal event. Maybe. Rumors, y’know?
