Man Of Steel ’s stonking opening weekend (which zoomed past box-office records for June ) would have made a sequel seem like a certainty, but it sounds like Man Of Steel 2 could be landing even sooner than we’d have expected.
In a report in The Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab) , Warner Bros’ president of domestic distribution, Dan Fellman, said of Man Of Steel ’s success, “It’s more than a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters. We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC.”
So while that sounds intriguingly like the Justice League movie (or a World’s Finest precursor) is a very serious proposition, The Wall Street Journal went on to say that Man Of Steel 2 is expected to be fast-tracked for a 2014 release date, according to “knowledgeable people close to the studio”.
While we’re keen to see where the franchise will head, a 2014 release date sounds particularly ambitious, given the amount of pre- and post-production time a blockbuster of this magnitude require s . But, given that the cast, crew and character origins are now firmly established, perhaps a late 2014 opening is feasible.
Expect to hear more about Man Of Steel 2 sooner rather than later.
