Get your salt shakers at the ready for this one. A new rumor doing the rounds suggests that Marvel are courting Angelina Jolie to direct Captain Marvel.
The news comes from OK! Magazine, whose sources state that “having a female director is a priority for [Marvel]. [Jolie] never thought she’d be in such huge demand as a director, and to be courted by Marvel after the Sony fiasco is a huge pat on the back.”
After seeing Jolie’s work on Unbroken, the comic book studio were so impressed they apparently offered her $20 million to bring the female-led caper to the big screen.
Her previous efforts – including directorial debut, In The Land Of Blood And Honey – don’t strike as Marvel’s typical milieu. However, her bold style and unwavering enthusiasm would certainly bring a new angle to the MCU.
With or without Jolie, Captain Marvel is scheduled to open on July 6, 2018 (although it has now been postponed to accomodate Spider-Man’s arrival in the MCU) (opens in new tab). It will revolve around the Carol Danvers-era of the comic book lines.
