It had long been rumoured that Patrick Stewart would be cropping up in some capacity in the next standalone Wolverine fan, and now the actor himself has come out to confirm as much. Not only that, but apparently his role will be more than a mere cameo…
“I think what you say is true,” says Stewart, when asked by Collider (opens in new tab) whether Xavier will be appearing in the film. “There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”
He also went on to touch on the notion of an ageing Wolverine, revealing that he’d be only too happy to see his evergreen colleague facing the ravages of time. “The idea of an old Wolverine… I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the case.”
Directed by James Mangold from a script by Michael Green, the final Wolverine film has yet to receive an official title, but will make its bow in the UK on march 2 2017, and the US the following day.
