J.J. Abrams has been speaking about Star Wars: Episode VII , and without revealing anything specific, has elaborated on his vision of the galaxy far, far away.
“I loved how Star Wars had that sense of a world far beyond the borders of what you can see and have been told,” says Abrams in an interview with The Times (opens in new tab) . “It’s one of the things it did so brilliantly.
“If you watch the first movie, you don’t actually know exactly what the Empire is trying to do. They’re going to rule by fear – but you don’t know what their end game is.
“The beauty of that movie was that it was an unfamiliar world, and yet you wanted to see it expand and to see where it went.”
That same interview piece also makes a passing reference to the presence of Chiwetel Ejiofor at Abrams’ production company, a nugget that has lead rumour-merchants to speculate over his casting in the new film.
Whether or not that proves accurate remains to be seen, but he is an exciting name to throw into the mix. Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK in May 2015.
