Henry Cavill in talks to reprise Superman role in upcoming DC movie

Henry Cavill is reportedly in talks to once again don the Superman cape in an undisclosed DC project.

According to Deadline (opens in new tab), a Man of Steel sequel is not currently in the cards. Instead, Cavill would return as Superman in a separate DC movie, likely in a glorified cameo role. Seeing as both Wonder Woman 1984 (opens in new tab) and The Suicide Squad have wrapped filming, and The Batman (opens in new tab) does not take place in the correct place on the DC timeline, the superhero won’t be appearing in any of those. And, as reported by Variety (opens in new tab), who backed up Deadline’s report with their own sources, it’s not the Justice League Snyder cut (opens in new tab) coming to HBO Max, as no actors are coming back for that movie.

Among the DC projects that could feature Cavill’s Superman return are Shazam 2Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and Aquaman 2. Those movies will reportedly take top priority once filming and production schedules have resumed after restrictions concerning the coronavirus pandemic are lifted.

Cavill had previously signalled he wasn’t ready to retire the blue and red spandex, telling a roundtable (opens in new tab) GamesRadar+ attended not to worry about his role as Geralt in The Witcher Netflix series conflicting with his role as Clark Kent.

“You’ve got to keep in mind that regardless of what movies I’ll be doing over the next few years, you can fit two projects into one year,” Cavill replied when asked about his potential future as Superman. Asked more directly where there was still “hope” for his return as Superman, Cavill replied, “I mean, that’s what [the S] stands for, right?”

Speaking of that oh-so precious Justice League director’s cut, here’s the Justice League cast sounding off on the Snyder cut (opens in new tab).
