Since HBO’s sprawling fantasy series Game Of Thrones hit the air, fans of the original set of novels – George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire – have watched the show with an advantageous eye. Knowing what was to come offered die-hard bookworms the pleasure of seeing their favourite sequences played out on screen.
However, the show now looks set to divert from the storylines in the books. Elements of the fourth season finally caught up with the literary timeline, and Martin recently announced that his sixth book in the series, The Winds Of Winter, won’t hit bookshelves this year.
With season 5 soon upon us, Martin spoke out with regard to that divergence. In an interview with Showbiz411, he issued a bloody caution:
“People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of ‘Game Of Thrones) are even bloodier than I am. “
Who will survive? We’ll find out when Game Of Thrones returns to HBO April 12th.
