After the success of the Resident Evil remake (opens in new tab) and Resi Zero getting HD-ised next year (opens in new tab), it seems only natural for Resident Evil 2 to stagger next in line for a lick of extra polygon paint. Rather than just announcing it though, Capcom is asking what people think of the idea of a Resident Evil 2 (opens in new tab) on its official Resident Evil Facebook page.

“Hello Resident Evil fans! This is Capcom R&D Division 1! First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand,” says the post (opens in new tab). “Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we’ve been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media. However, as the team owns the RE brand, we’re not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?”

As you would expect, the 5461 responses so far have been largely positive with most calling for the same treatment as the original remake. Mathew Bryce (opens in new tab) has over 3500 likes with the following: “A full remake along the same lines as the Resident Evil one remake, same style as Resident Evil 2 with newly done backgrounds added features but with the same gameplay and story expanded on. Not a slapped together game in the style of RE 4-6 but the old original Resident Evil soul.“

That Resident Evil ‘soul’ also appears so be what Mon Sadie (opens in new tab) is looking for but a little more to the point; “Remake Resident Evil 2 just the way you remake Resident Evil 1 and 0 no gameplay style of RE 4-6. No bullshit.” Amen.

It’s interesting that the team is asking for feedback and fan input for what is essentially a part of Capcom’s ‘remakes are key’ business model (opens in new tab).
